Our Story
We officially met at an intramural summer volleyball game through the Catholic young adult group in Kansas City in 2019. Our mutual friend, Henry, had been a coach for many of the Catholic sports groups and had chosen Eric to be on his team that summer.
Eric had been in Kansas City a short time, and was wanting to meet other Catholics. Anne was nervous to try sports again, but wanted to get more involved after finally moving to Kansas City. Anne was asked to sub for another team at the first game of the season, but knew that Henry had the only team color that was pink. Eric was watching the games with his pink team shirt on, and he caught Anne’s attention immediately. She knew that he was part of Henry’s team and walked up and started a conversation with him to get to know him better.
A few weeks later, Anne ended up asking Eric to go out to her favorite country dancing bar, and he said "YES"! Eric had no idea what he was getting into, especially when his other friends weren’t going. They danced together several times, and at the end of the night, Eric walked her out to her car, and they got each other’s numbers.
One week later, Eric asked Anne on an official date to Messenger Coffee. During that date, they walked around downtown Kansas City for several hours, found the Packers vs. Vikings game, went to a soda shop, got sunburned, and they realized they still didn’t want the date to end. During that week, they grew closer and Eric asked Anne to be his girlfriend on September 22nd, 2019!
The Proposal
On December 5th, 2020, we had made plans to go look at Christmas lights and take a Christmas card photo together. Anne had asked her friend, Amy to take the picture. Eric had said he wanted to take a picture with the plaza lights in the background, which is where Eric had been living in Kansas City for a while.
We walked over one of the bridges, near the one we had gone after our 1-year dating anniversary. Amy took a test photo, showed Eric and he said we needed another one. After the next picture Anne started to walk away to another spot, Eric pulled her back and said he had a very important question to ask. Anne had absolutely no idea that this was part of the plan for the night. She barely let him finish asking before she said "YES"!
After looking at Christmas lights and making phone calls to family and friends, we ended up having a bottle of wine and dancing in the living room. An overall perfect night!!
